Canada Fights Back to Tie Bosnia-Herzegovina in Thrilling World Cup Opener

Canada earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in their FIFA World Cup opener on Friday. The Canadians trailed at halftime after Jovo Lukic scored his first international goal in the 21st minute, heading home a set piece.

Lukic's goal was set up by Amar Memic's corner kick, which was flicked on by Sead Kolasinac. Canada pushed for an equalizer in the second half, with Richie Laryea's low shot cleared off the line by Kolasinac in the 54th minute.

Maxime Crepeau made a crucial kick save on Ermedin Demirovic shortly after, keeping Canada in the match. The Canadians eventually found their breakthrough when Cyle Larin scored just two minutes after coming off the bench, shifting and striking a right-footed shot that deflected into the net.

Larin became the second Canadian player to score in a FIFA World Cup, following Alphonso Davies' goal in 2022. The draw means both teams take a point from their opening match, with Canada set to face Qatar on June 18 and Bosnia-Herzegovina taking on Switzerland on the same day.
