Donis Blames Lack of Preparation Time for Saudi Arabia's Disappointing Draw Against Uruguay

Saudi Arabia coach Georgios Donis has admitted that his team lacks tactical flexibility after their 1-1 draw with Uruguay at the World Cup. Donis, who took charge in late April, said the squad needs more time to develop this aspect of their game.

The team's Group H opener at Miami Stadium was Donis' first competitive game, following three pre-tournament friendlies. "For us, within three weeks, we've been trying to set up our game and build up our spirit," Donis said.

The Saudis took the lead in the 41st minute through Abdulelah Alamri, but Uruguay dominated the second half and equalized with 10 minutes remaining through Maxi Araujo. Donis attributed the team's struggles in the second half to a lack of intensity and self-confidence.

The 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 national teams, is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11th to July 19th. Saudi Arabia will look to build on this result in their upcoming matches.
