Kylian Mbappe Scores Twice as France Cruise Past Sweden to Reach the Knockout Stage

France have cruised to a 3-0 victory over Sweden in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 at MetLife Stadium, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a brace. The early stages were marred by numerous fouls, with Alexander Isak's third-minute effort the only notable moment in the opening period.

As the game progressed, France's attacking duo of Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele were closely marked by the Swedish defense, while Viktor Gyokeres was heavily involved for Sweden. Bradley Barcola had a chance to score but fired over, before Mbappe had a goal ruled out for offside.

France eventually broke the deadlock just before halftime, with Mbappe drilling home the opener after a well-worked short corner routine. The French team doubled their lead early in the second half, courtesy of a stunning pass from Michael Olise that set up Bradley Barcola to smash home.

With France in control, Olise continued to pose a threat, denied by Jacob Widell Zetterström on multiple occasions. The game was all but over when Mbappe curled in his second goal, courtesy of an Olise pass, to bring him level with Lionel Messi as the tournament's top scorer. This goal also made France the first team to score 3+ goals in five consecutive World Cup games.

The win cements France's position as the leading scorers in the tournament, and they will face Paraguay in the last 16. Sweden, meanwhile, exit the tournament with a whimper, suffering their first defeat against France in major tournament football.
