Tiafoe Secures Thrilling Victory Over Fritz to Claim Halle Open and His First Title in Three Years

Frances Tiafoe has secured the biggest title of his career, defeating fellow American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to win the Halle Open on Sunday. This victory marks the first time an American has lifted the ATP 500 grass-court trophy since 1993.

Tiafoe set the tone early, breaking serve in the opening set and maintaining composure on his own delivery to keep Fritz at bay. He carried this momentum into the second set, striking early to secure the win and end a seven-match losing streak against Fritz.

Tiafoe dropped just seven points on serve in the final, capping a memorable debut at the German grass event and claiming his fourth career title. He also registered three top-10 wins during the week, including victories over world number 10 Flavio Cobolli and number four Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The 28-year-old's victory comes after a string of setbacks, including a defeat to Fritz in Tokyo in 2022 and a grueling loss to Matteo Arnaldi at the French Open earlier this month. Tiafoe's triumph will see him climb nine places to 19th in the ATP rankings, boosting his prospects ahead of Wimbledon, which begins on June 29th.
