Marisa Pyle, a senior staffer with the nonpartisan advocacy organization All Voting Is Local, expressed concern over the development. "We're heading toward consequential elections, and this could be used to relitigate past grievances and undermine people's confidence in the system, potentially discouraging them from voting," she said.

The department is currently conducting a criminal investigation into the 2020 election in Georgia.
