Donald Trump Launches Attack on Georgia's Voting System and Public Trust in US Elections

The US President has deployed 260 FBI analysts to Georgia, reiterating baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 election. Critics argue that the move aims to undermine confidence in the electoral process. The deployment is seen as part of a broader effort to sow doubt about the integrity of elections.

The FBI analysts have been assigned to a "priority" investigation in Fulton County, Georgia, just days after the Supreme Court ruled that states can count mail ballots arriving after Election Day. This decision rejected President Trump's plans. A federal judge also recently barred the President from implementing an executive order requiring documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration.

Marisa Pyle, a senior staffer with the nonpartisan advocacy organization All Voting Is Local, expressed concern over the development. "We're heading toward consequential elections, and this could be used to relitigate past grievances and undermine people's confidence in the system, potentially discouraging them from voting," she said.

The Justice Department, which has traditionally conducted investigations independently, is at the forefront of the issue. The department is currently conducting a criminal investigation into the 2020 election in Georgia. In January, the FBI raided an election warehouse in Fulton County, seizing over 600 boxes of election materials, including original ballots from the 2020 election. The raid was based on debunked claims about ballot anomalies, which have been revived by a Trump administration official, Kurt Olsen.
