Rock Star Reveals Shocking Truth: Music Is No Longer Part of My Life After Suffering Deafness

Huey Lewis, the 76-year-old rock star, is struggling to come to terms with the impact of Ménière's disease on his life. The condition, which causes fluid buildup in the inner ear, has left him "basically deaf" and unable to enjoy music, a passion that once defined his career.

Lewis, who was diagnosed with the inner ear condition in the mid-1990s, revealed that he has not been able to hear properly for over eight years. While a cochlear implant and hearing aid help him understand speech, they distort musical pitch, making it impossible for him to appreciate music.

The Huey Lewis and the News frontman expressed his sadness at no longer being able to "groove" like he used to, and finds it difficult to hear about friends playing gigs. Lewis has found solace in nature, particularly fly fishing, which he says is a wonderful experience that does not require hearing.

Ménière's disease is characterized by symptoms such as vertigo, dizziness, and hearing loss, according to Harvard Health. Lewis publicly revealed his diagnosis in 2021 and has since found ways to adapt to his new reality, focusing on the positive aspects of his life, including his love for nature and the people he has met through fishing.
