Bonnie Tyler, Singer of 'Total Eclipse of the Heart', Wakes from Month-Long Induced Coma

Grammy-nominated singer Bonnie Tyler is no longer in a coma but remains in intensive care in a Portuguese hospital, her team announced. The 75-year-old singer's condition is improving, albeit slowly, and her doctors are confident she will make a good recovery, according to a statement on her website.

Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery on May 8 and was subsequently put into an induced coma to aid her recovery. As a result, she will be unable to perform a series of international shows scheduled through December, with concerts either canceled or postponed until next year.

The singer's team apologized for the disappointment this will cause her fans and promoter partners, stating that all shows until the end of August will be affected. Tyler is aware of and grateful for the good wishes she has received, her team said.

Before her recent health issues, Tyler had been performing with her band and was "really enjoying doing the shows," she told a UK magazine in an interview published in March. The Welsh singer has had a long and successful music career, with hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero." She was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2023 for her services to music.
