Celtic and Elversberg Intensify Pursuit to Sign Highly Touted USMNT Prospect Cole Campbell
Borussia Dortmund's Cole Campbell is reportedly nearing the end of his tenure with the club, with two suitors emerging to sign the 20-year-old attacker. Elversberg, newly promoted to the Bundesliga, and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic are both seeking to acquire Campbell, according to Sky Sports Germany.
Campbell spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim, making just five appearances and playing 74 minutes. He also featured in two matches for Hoffenheim II in the German third-tier. Since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2024, Campbell has struggled to break into the first team, making seven appearances for the club and 13 appearances for Dortmund II in the 3. Liga and Regionalliga divisions.
A former Iceland youth national team player, Campbell has since switched his allegiance to the United States, scoring twice at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and featuring for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team. Elversberg earned promotion to the top-flight after finishing second in the 2. Bundesliga last season, while Celtic won its fifth-consecutive league title in Scotland and will compete in the upcoming UEFA Champions League. Borussia Dortmund is open to a permanent transfer or a loan move for Campbell.
