Donald Trump's Battle to Keep Name on Kennedy Center Honors Continues, Here's What We Know
A US court ruling to remove President Donald Trump's name from the Kennedy Center has sparked an appeal from the president's lawyers. The appeal, filed on June 11, aims to overturn a May 29 order by US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper, who ruled that Trump's name was added to the center's title illegally. The judge's decision came in response to a lawsuit by Democratic US Rep. Joyce Beatty, a member of the Kennedy Center's board. Trump had taken control of the center in February 2025, replacing its board with allies and appointing himself chairman, before securing $257 million in federal funds for renovations and renaming the center the "Trump-Kennedy Center" in December. The court's ruling has drawn attention to the center, with many awaiting the removal of Trump's name from the building.
