Gracie the Missing Giraffe Found in Texas After Intensive 2-Week Search Effort
A giraffe named Gracie has been located over two weeks after escaping from a Texas ranch. Authorities said Gracie defied norms by scaling a rocky slab to escape the Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County, Texas. She was spotted about 4 miles south of the ranch on June 26, according to the Real County Sheriff's Office.
Gracie was found by ranch manager Vick Jones and Jeff Hill of Concho Aviation, who were searching for her by air. The sheriff's office stated that Jones is working with a veterinarian to safely capture Gracie and bring her home.
Gracie had been missing since June 11 and was previously spotted on game cameras in the county, but had always evaded capture. Sheriff Nathan Johnson described Gracie's adventure as being "out on a fling, enjoying the countryside."
The plan is for Gracie to be returned to the ranch, where she will rejoin fellow giraffe Atlas. To prevent future escapes, the ranch is working with a fencing company to secure the area. Gracie's condition is currently unclear, but a photo of her was posted by the sheriff's office.
