Iranian Demonstrations Erupt Before Highly Anticipated World Cup Opener Amidst Rising Tensions and Nationwide Unrest Containing Multitudes of Demands and Protests

In Inglewood, California, a large group of Iranian fans gathered outside SoFi Stadium, protesting the Iranian national team's first World Cup match against New Zealand. The protesters, many of whom were from the large Iranian-American community in Los Angeles, held placards and flags, making it clear that they did not support the team or the current Iranian regime.

The protesters, who were mostly descendants of people who fled Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, considered the national team to be an instrument of propaganda for the regime. One protester claimed that the team members were "paid agents" of the regime, and that the real people of Iran were those protesting outside the stadium.

Some fans, like Robert, said they would be supporting New Zealand in the match, as they did not want to see the Iranian regime's team win. Others, like Ramin, brought pre-revolutionary flags to the protest, which have been banned by FIFA. Ramin said that the protesters were trying to show the world what was really happening in Iran, where thousands of people have been killed in recent unrest.

The Iranian team has tried to distance itself from the political controversy, with player Mehdi Taremi saying that they were only in the World Cup to play football. However, the protesters made it clear that they would not be supporting the team, and that they were calling for an end to the current regime.
