Knicks Fans Flood Streets as Celebrations Take Chaotic Turn in New York City After Championship Win

New York City's celebration of the Knicks' first NBA championship in over 50 years was marred by violence and mayhem. A 17-year-old male was shot in the left foot and hospitalized in stable condition after gunfire erupted in Times Square. Police took three persons of interest into custody and recovered a firearm at the scene.

The shooting occurred hours after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, capturing their first championship since 1973. Thousands of fans flooded streets across Manhattan, with some causing damage and disrupting order. Officers in riot gear and on horseback worked to manage large crowds, making several arrests in the process.

Videos circulating on social media showed individuals jumping onto an NYPD vehicle and smashing its windshield, as well as climbing on and entering school buses near Times Square. The NYPD expects to provide an update on the number of arrests later. Despite the chaos, the city will officially celebrate the Knicks' championship win on Thursday with a parade and City Hall ceremony.
