Marc Cucurella: Real Madrid Confirm Signing of Chelsea Defender in Massive £51.7m Transfer Deal
Spain left-back Marc Cucurella has completed a transfer to Real Madrid, marking the club's first major signing since Xabi Alonso's arrival. The 27-year-old signed a six-year contract after Chelsea agreed to a deal worth up to £51.8m. Cucurella, currently at the World Cup with Spain, had expressed his desire to return to Spain and was previously linked with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The defender joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022 for £63m and had three years remaining on his contract. His departure comes as Real Madrid undergo a squad overhaul under new management, with the club seeking to end a two-season trophy drought. Real Madrid are also reportedly close to signing Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate as free agents, as well as Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.
