Over half a million dollars stolen in sophisticated ATM 'jackpotting' scheme, according to law enforcement officials

Four men have been charged in federal court for stealing over $500,000 from ATMs in Connecticut. The alleged thefts occurred in August 2025, with the men using a "jackpotting" scheme that involved specialized hardware and malware to force ATMs to dispense cash.

The suspects, all Venezuelan nationals, include Euclides Moreno Itanare, 28, Willian Ricardo Flores, 49, Alberto Jose Freites Arvilla, 41, and Luis Jose Freites Arvilla, 38. They were arrested on June 25 and face charges of interstate transportation of stolen property and conspiracy.

At least nine ATMs in southern Connecticut were targeted, with one ATM having a software patch that prevented the theft. The total stolen amount was $529,220, with the highest amount taken from an ATM in Fairfield, Connecticut, totaling $136,000.

Surveillance videos show the men following a similar pattern at each ATM. Alberto Freites Arvilla would access the ATM's interior, while Luis Freites Arvilla stood watch. The other suspects would then take turns withdrawing cash, sometimes changing clothes to avoid suspicion. The men would store the cash in waist packs or pockets, with photos showing large amounts of cash in a car and a location in New York.
