Sen. Roger Marshall Describes US Strikes on Iran as a 'Mop-Up Operation' Amid Rising Tensions

Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas stated on Sunday that the conflict between the US and Iran has entered a new phase, which he described as "a mop-up operation." This comes after the US launched fresh strikes on Iran. Marshall said, "The major war is over, and think of this as almost just a mop-up operation. We have to press them if they strike us. We have to strike them back by 10."

The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding last week, paving the way for a potential end to the conflict. However, the US launched retaliatory strikes on Iran for the second time in two days, following Iranian attacks on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz and "targets linked to the American aggressor forces" in the region.

Marshall cited a framework agreement for peace between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as evidence of progress towards US goals, including preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and avoiding "forever wars." He also expressed support for the Trump administration's efforts, saying, "Let's root for the Trump team for once, rather than try to tear them down."

Regarding concerns over President Donald Trump's decision to halt the signing of a bipartisan housing affordability bill, Marshall defended the move as a negotiating tactic. Trump has committed to not signing the bill until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, which aims to overhaul elections by requiring voter IDs and federal oversight of voter rolls. Marshall said, "Housing is part of the puzzle, but this is classic Donald Trump negotiation style. He's going to grab every leverage point he can."
