Supercomputer Predicts USMNT's 2026 World Cup Finish After Group Stage Concludes

The US men's national team suffered a 3-2 loss to Türkiye in their final group stage match, but manager Mauricio Pochettino remains optimistic. Despite the defeat, the team emerged with no injuries and no yellow card suspensions, having already secured the Group D crown with consecutive victories over Paraguay and Australia.

Pochettino downplayed the significance of the loss, stating that winning or losing the match would not impact their upcoming round of 32 match against Bosnia & Herzegovina. He dismissed concerns about lost momentum as "a little bit petty" and narrow-minded.

The Opta supercomputer predicts the USMNT has a 76.96% chance of beating Bosnia & Herzegovina, who finished third in Group B. To reach the quarterfinals, the US must defeat the winner of Belgium vs. Senegal in the round of 16, a task the supercomputer gives them a 41.33% chance of accomplishing.

The USMNT's odds of advancing to the semifinals are significantly lower, at 14.90%. Their chances of reaching the final are 5.43%, and they have a 2.15% chance of winning the World Cup. France, Spain, and Argentina are the only nations with double-digit odds of becoming world champions. Despite the low odds, the USMNT has already exceeded expectations, and the possibility of a surprise victory remains.
