Thomas Partey Eligible to Play for Ghana Against England in the 2026 World Cup

Ghana's World Cup squad has included Thomas Partey in the starting lineup for their group stage clash with England, as the midfielder has been granted a US visa. Partey, who has been charged with multiple counts of rape by the Metropolitan Police in London, has pleaded not guilty and denies all allegations. The trial is scheduled for June 2027.

The Crown Prosecution Service revealed in July 2025 that Partey had been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to incidents between 2021 and 2022. Two further counts of rape were added in February 2026, following a new investigation.

Partey was initially denied entry to Canada for Ghana's opening match against Panama, due to his failure to disclose the pending charges on his visa application. However, he was allowed to enter the US, with the White House World Cup task force citing the principle of innocence until proven guilty. US customs and border protection explained that admissibility determinations are made on a case-by-case basis, and Partey was admitted to the US after being issued a visa.
