Tottenham Hotspur Set to Launch Third Bid for Brighton and Hove Albion Defender Jan Paul van Hecke
Tottenham are set to make a third bid for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, after their initial two offers of £40million and £50million were rejected. The club is eager to strengthen its defence ahead of the new season, following a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League last term.
Spurs have already signed centre-back Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and are confident of securing a deal for Van Hecke. According to reports, a £55million package is being prepared to be sent to Brighton. The Seagulls' manager, Roberto De Zerbi, is keen to reunite with Van Hecke, having previously worked with him at Brighton.
De Zerbi's interest in Van Hecke is partly driven by the expected departure of Cristian Romero from Tottenham. Van Hecke was a key player under De Zerbi at Brighton, featuring in more games than all but five other players. His potential signing, alongside Senesi and Micky van de Ven, would significantly bolster Tottenham's defensive options.
