US and Iran Agree to Roadmap for 'Final Deal' Within 60 Days in Landmark Nuclear Talks

Delegations from the US and Iran convened in Switzerland on Sunday to discuss a potential war-ending deal. The talks come after President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran in February, which included joint US-Israeli strikes on military and government sites.

The Iranian delegation, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, arrived at the Bürgenstock resort over the weekend, but has since left and is heading back to Tehran, according to Iran's state media. Prior to their departure, the delegations engaged in approximately 18 hours of intensive dialogue and consultations.

The US and Iran have agreed to negotiate a deal within a 60-day timeframe, according to mediators Pakistan and Qatar. A "High Level" committee has been established to provide political oversight for the talks, with a 60-day roadmap in place.

A key point of contention is the fighting in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group. In response, the US and Iran have agreed to establish a "deconfliction cell" comprising officials from Tehran, Washington, and Lebanon. This group aims to ensure the termination of military operations in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the success of the "deconfliction cell" will be a crucial test for the talks. Meanwhile, Israel's defense minister has indicated that the Israel Defense Forces do not plan to leave southern Lebanon, where they are currently fighting Hezbollah.

Despite the challenges, Araghchi has praised Pakistan and Qatar for their efforts in facilitating the talks, citing "major progress" in ending the war. Technical discussions are set to continue at the Bürgenstock resort, with the mediators aiming to maintain a constructive atmosphere in pursuit of a final deal.
