Chelsea beat Arsenal to sign Morgan Rogers in stunning €137.6m transfer deal

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a €137.6 million deal. The Blues have a verbal agreement in place with Aston Villa and are set to finalize the transfer, with Rogers agreeing to personal terms on a contract until June 2032, with an option for an additional year.

The 23-year-old England international, valued at €90m, was also a target for Arsenal, but has chosen to join Chelsea. Manager Xabi Alonso played a key role in the deal, which will take Chelsea's summer spending to over €250m. Rogers is expected to complete his move to Stamford Bridge in the coming days, becoming the club's sixth new signing.

The attacking midfielder was heavily sought after this summer, with PSG, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool also linked to a move. However, Aston Villa's initial asking price of €158m deterred these clubs. Rogers' desire for a new challenge contributed to Villa's willingness to let him leave, following their signing of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg in a potential €70m deal. Rogers is expected to feature for England in their third-place playoff against France at the World Cup.
