Dozens of White Supremacist Group Supporters Gather in Nation's Capital on Independence Day, Sparking Concerns
A group of individuals associated with the White supremacist organization Patriot Front gathered and paraded in parts of the nation's capital on July 4. They were spotted at Union Station and the Eastern Market metro station in Washington, DC, near the Capitol building.
Videos on social media showed the group marching in uniform, wearing blue shirts, chinos, and white face coverings, with some donning hats featuring the Patriot Front logo. They marched to a drum beat outside Union Station, carrying flags including an upside-down American flag and a Confederate flag.
The Metropolitan Police Department tracked the group's activities, recognizing their right to peaceful expression while maintaining public safety. Patriot Front has previously marched in Washington, including during the March for Life on January 23, 2026.
The organization was founded in 2017 by Thomas Rousseau after the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where counterprotestor Heather Heyer was killed. Rousseau has since promoted Patriot Front as a protector of White America, appearing on far-right podcasts and participating in anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations.
Internal documents suggest the group aims to "secure a future for White children." Patriot Front has expanded significantly, adding hundreds of members across 49 states in the past two years, solidifying its position as one of the nation's largest White supremacist groups.
