FIFA President Gianno Infantino Leads Tributes To South Africa Midfielder Jayden Adams After Sudden Death At 25

South African footballer Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25. Adams played for South Africa in all three of its group games at the 2026 World Cup.

The South African football community is in mourning, with the nation's football fraternity describing Adams as one of its brightest young talents. The cause of his passing has not been confirmed, and officials have appealed for restraint and compassion, refraining from speculation while his family and club, Mamelodi Sundowns, are given space and privacy.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has expressed his heartfelt condolences, saying Adams' passing is "incredibly sad" and that his thoughts are with the player's family, friends, and teammates. Adams featured in South Africa's historic World Cup campaign, starting games against Mexico and Czechia, and was a substitute in the vital win over South Korea.

The South African Football Players Union described Adams' passing as an "immeasurable loss" to the football fraternity and the country. Adams was a graduate of Stellenbosch's academy and played for the first team for five years before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025. Police have opened an investigation into his death after his body was found at a property in Cape Town.
