Jürgen Klopp in Talks for Germany Job as Liverpool Icon Eyes National Team Role Amid DFB Statement Release

Jürgen Klopp is nearing an agreement to become Germany's new head coach, following talks with the German Football Association (DFB). The 56-year-old, formerly of Liverpool, has been out of the dugout since leaving Anfield in 2024. He is currently Red Bull's head of global football, overseeing various club projects.

The DFB is seeking a new head coach after Julian Nagelsmann's resignation, which came after Germany's World Cup elimination by Paraguay in the round of 32. Nagelsmann, 38, had been in charge since September 2023, leading the team to the quarter-finals of the European Championship in 2024.

Klopp, along with his agent, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, and Hans-Joachim Watzke, held discussions at John F. Kennedy Airport in the USA. The DFB has confirmed that constructive talks took place, with an agreement on key contract terms. Further negotiations are set to continue next week, subject to reaching an agreement with Red Bull, Klopp's current employer.

Germany's failure to reach the round of 16 in three consecutive World Cups has prompted a revamp of the national team setup. The DFB is confident that negotiations with Klopp can be concluded successfully, with a potential contract requiring approval from the Supervisory Board and Shareholders' Assembly of DFB GmbH & Co. KG.
