Kane Saves the Day as England Stumbles to Victory with Captain Fantastic Performance

England secured their place in the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over DR Congo on Wednesday. A second-half brace from Harry Kane, assisted by substitute Anthony Gordon, sealed the victory and set up a meeting with co-hosts Mexico on Sunday.

The match began poorly for England, with DR Congo taking the lead in the seventh minute through Brian Cipenga's goal. England struggled to find their footing, with their first chance coming in the 30th minute when Jude Bellingham's header forced a save from Lionel Mpasi.

Despite being lucky not to fall further behind, England pushed for an equalizer. Kane had a penalty appeal waved away and Mpasi made several superb saves to deny England's attacks. However, Kane eventually broke through, heading home Gordon's cross from close range.

The same pair combined again with four minutes left, as Gordon recycled the ball and Kane unleashed an unstoppable finish from the edge of the penalty area to secure victory. England's win was a testament to their perseverance, and they will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming match against Mexico.
