Mexico Ordered to Give Back Luxury Rolex Watches Received as Gift from Popular YouTuber
Mexico's national football team has returned luxury Rolex watches worth $1 million to American content creator Stevewilldoit. The team received the gifts before their 2-0 victory over Ecuador, but were forced to return them due to FIFA's Code of Ethics, which prohibits gifts unless they have "symbolic or trivial value".
The watches, valued between $30,000 and $90,000 each, were handed out by Stevewilldoit, who visited the team in the capital before their round of 32 tie. The team's decision to return the watches was made to avoid violating FIFA rules, which could result in a $12,500 fine and a ban from football-related activities for up to two years.
Stevewilldoit, who lives in Mexico and has expressed his love for the country, had also placed a $2 million bet on Mexico to beat Ecuador, reportedly earning a $1 million profit. The Mexican national team has enjoyed a successful campaign, winning all four games on home soil, and will face England in the round of 16 with a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals at stake.
