Rep. Khanna Claims He Was Detained by Israeli Settlers and IDF During Tense West Bank Visit
A US congressman has claimed he was briefly detained by Israeli settlers and the military during a visit to a West Bank village. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna said he was stopped by settlers, who were armed with American-made M4s, near the village of Khirbet Zanuta on Wednesday. The settlers allegedly blocked the road and called the military, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arriving at the scene.
However, the IDF has disputed Khanna's account, stating that its troops did not block the road and instead moved vehicles that were obstructing the roadway after speaking with Israeli civilians. The IDF added that it received reports of Israeli civilians unlawfully blocking vehicles of foreign nationals and media members, and that its soldiers quickly dispersed the civilians and reopened the road. The identity of an armed individual connected to the incident is currently under review.
