Ryan Reynolds' Aviation Gin Shuts Down Operations at Oregon Distillery
The Aviation American Gin Distillery and visitor center in Portland, Oregon, has closed due to a shift in production strategy by its parent company, Diageo. The global spirits company, which acquired Aviation American Gin in 2020, confirmed the closure, citing evolving business needs.
The 33,000-square-foot facility, which opened in September 2022, featured a cocktail bar, tasting room, gift shop, and tours. Founded by Portland's House Spirits Distillery in the early 2000s, Aviation American Gin later became associated with actor Ryan Reynolds, who acquired a stake in the company in 2018.
Diageo's acquisition of Aviation Gin was valued at up to $610 million. The company, which also owns Captain Morgan, Crown Royal, and Smirnoff, had begun moving Aviation's production from Portland to other facilities in 2025 to improve efficiency. Despite the closure, Diageo says Aviation American Gin will remain part of its portfolio. Reynolds, who remains an owner of the brand, had expressed his enthusiasm for the company, stating he loves the taste of Aviation Gin and has enjoyed growing the brand.
