White House Claims Donald Trump Would Be the Perfect Addition to Mount Rushmore

President Donald Trump is set to deliver remarks at Mount Rushmore on Friday night, kicking off a weekend of celebrations for America's 250th birthday. The speech is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. local time, 10:30 p.m. Eastern, at the national monument featuring the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

The White House has suggested that Trump could be an addition to the mountain, with a spokesperson stating that there would be no better addition than the 45th President of the United States. Trump has previously expressed interest in adding his likeness to the granite peak, calling it a "good idea" on social media in 2020.

Trump will travel to Keystone, South Dakota, on the newly retrofitted Air Force One 747, a gift from the Qatari royal family. The Mount Rushmore festivities will include flyovers, performances by military bands, and tributes to the Armed Services, culminating in a large fireworks display, the first at the national memorial in years.

The president's visit comes ahead of a major event in Washington, D.C., for the Fourth of July, the "Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks," which begins Saturday at 7 p.m. Trump has teased a long speech to mark the occasion, billed as the largest firework display ever held on the National Mall. The festivities coincide with extreme heat blanketing much of the country, but Trump has stated that high temperatures will not stop him from making his remarks.
