1 Dead After Private Plane Crashes Onto Texas Road, Leaving Trail of Destruction, Police Investigate
A private plane crashed onto a highway in Laredo, Texas, late Tuesday, killing one of the six people on board and injuring the others. The Laredo Police Department has not released details about the victim, pending notification of the family.
Mayor Victor Trevino expressed his condolences, saying "our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by the recent private jet crash." The private aviation company NetJets confirmed the incident, stating they are working with authorities.
According to FlightRadar24 tracking data, the plane was a Cessna Citation Latitude that took off from San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, and was headed to Austin, Texas, before diverting to Laredo. The flight track ended over Laredo's Bob Bullock Loop, also known as Texas State Highway Loop 20.
Police received a call about the crash at around 10 p.m. local time. Investigator Joe Baeza reported that part of the plane remained on the road, along with jet fuel, which requires cleanup. As a result, Loop 20 will be closed in both directions for an extended period. The FBI is on site, and the National Transportation Safety Board is gathering information about the incident.
