Alphonso Davies Has Hilarious Interaction With Unsuspecting World Cup Fans

Soccer's growing popularity in Canada and the US has not necessarily translated to fans being well-versed in the teams they support. This was evident at Vancouver's BC Place, where fans donning Canada colors gathered to watch Australia's 2-0 loss to Tükiye.

The Canadian team had played a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto the previous day, earning their first point at the men's World Cup. Following the match, the team traveled to the west coast, where they will play their next two matches.

Several Canadian stars, including Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, Ismaël Koné, and Ali Ahmed, attended the match at BC Place. Davies, a regular for Bayern Munich, mingled with fans, wearing a black T-shirt, baseball cap, and glasses. He even posted a video on Snapchat of a fan wearing his jersey and approached another fan wearing the same jersey, praising their choice of kit. However, the fan seemed unaware that it was Davies standing in front of them.

Davies, who has been rehabbing a hamstring strain, did not play in the opening match but has been training with the team. He could be in contention for the upcoming match against Qatar. The Canadian squad will intensify their preparations for the match on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The anonymity of Canadian soccer players is not unique, as many athletes in the country and the US are not often recognized outside of their respective sports. This allows them to move freely in public, unlike in other parts of the world where they would likely be mobbed by fans. Canadian striker Jonathan David noted that he wanted to visit McDonald's after a game, and it's likely he could have done so without being recognized.
