Arsenal's Bid for Newcastle's Bruno Guimarães Rejected as Gunners Intensify Search for Midfield Reinforcements

Arsenal have made a verbal offer to Newcastle United for midfielder Bruno Guimarães, reportedly worth around €65 million. However, the proposal has been rejected by Newcastle, who are hesitant to sell the 28-year-old Brazilian this summer. Guimarães is currently preparing for a World Cup last-32 tie against Japan, following a strong performance in a 3-0 win over Scotland.

Guimarães has established himself as a key player for Newcastle since joining from Lyon in January 2022 for €42.1m. He has made over 150 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 goals from centre-midfield, and is also a crucial player for Brazil. Newcastle have already sold winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this summer and are facing a fight to keep hold of Guimarães's midfield partner, Sandro Tonali.

Arsenal are seeking midfield reinforcements after a grueling season, with Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi showing signs of fatigue. The Gunners have been linked with several players, including West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, Genk's Konstantinos Karetsas, and Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha. Guimarães's potential move to Arsenal could be influenced by Newcastle's inability to offer European football next term, having finished 12th in the Premier League last season.
