Christian Pulisic Trains Alone, Insists He Will Be Ready for Action After Early Substitution in USMNT Match

US men's national team star Christian Pulisic trained individually on Monday, but is expected to be available for selection for Friday's World Cup group stage match against Australia. Pulisic worked out in the gym near the training pitches at the team's base camp, a precautionary measure after coming off early in the tournament opener against Paraguay.

Midfielder Tyler Adams downplayed the issue, saying Pulisic will be ready for the next match. According to Adams, Pulisic picked up a knock before the game and was kicked in the same area again during the match, prompting his precautionary exit at halftime.

The US team will benefit from the extra time between games, a new feature of the expanded 48-team tournament. With roughly a week between group stage matches, players have sufficient time to recover from the physical demands of a game. The team's substitutes from the win over Paraguay trained in full on Saturday, while all players had the day off on Sunday.

Adams praised the new scheduling format, saying it allows players to recover and feel fresher, especially after a long season. The extra time between games is a significant change from previous World Cups, where teams had only three or four days to recover between matches.
