What Jersey Number Would Casemiro Wear for Inter Miami Football Club This Season?

Inter Miami have reportedly completed a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. According to Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement is in place for the 34-year-old Brazilian to join the club as a free agent. Casemiro, who starred for United last season, will join Lionel Messi in South Florida once he puts pen to paper.

The midfielder's signing poses several questions, however, as Inter Miami have all three of their Designated Player roster spots occupied by Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Germán Berterame. Casemiro would need to join on a significantly reduced salary, unless one of the current Designated Players leaves the club.

LA Galaxy own Casemiro's Discovery Rights, giving them priority to negotiate with the player. Miami will need to provide compensation to the Galaxy to secure his rights, a common practice in Major League Soccer. Despite initial complications, Casemiro's desire to join the club and Miami's willingness to explore alternative routes have brought the transfer close to reality.

If the deal is finalized, Casemiro will have the option to choose from three numbers he has worn throughout his career: No. 14, which he wore during his time at Real Madrid; No. 18, which he wore at Manchester United; and No. 5, which he has worn for Brazil since 2016.
