Yan Diomande Set to Smash Record: Top 15 Most Expensive African Signings in Football History

RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande is set to be a highly sought-after player this summer, with Liverpool already having an initial bid rejected. The Reds offered €90m, plus an additional €10m in add-ons, for the 19-year-old, but Leipzig is holding out for €130m. Diomande's contract runs until 2030, leaving the club under no pressure to sell.

The winger made a significant impact last season, registering 23 goal contributions in 36 games after his €20m move from Leganes. His performances for Ivory Coast at the World Cup have further enhanced his reputation, with PSG also linked to the player. If Diomande leaves Leipzig, he will become the most expensive African player in history, surpassing the current record set by Arsenal's acquisition of Nicolas Pépé for €90m in 2019.

The top 15 most expensive African player signings are dominated by English clubs, with 12 of the transfers made by Premier League teams. Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen features twice in the top five list, with his moves to Napoli and Galatasaray ranking among the highest fees paid for an African player.
