E. Jean Carroll attorneys say 'time for him to pay' after Supreme Court rejects Donald Trump appeal

The US Supreme Court has declined to hear Donald Trump's appeal of a case in which he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Following the decision, attorneys for E. Jean Carroll have asked a federal judge to order Trump to pay the $5 million judgment awarded by a Manhattan jury.

Carroll's lawyers stated that Trump's legal team may request the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling. In a court filing, attorney Roberta Kaplan noted that after four years of litigation, it is time for the case to conclude, and Carroll is entitled to receive the payment.

The case stems from a 2023 jury verdict that held Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the 1990s and defaming her in 2022. The $5 million in damages has been held in escrow pending the outcome of Trump's appeal.

Trump has vowed to continue fighting the case, calling it a "Weaponization and Lawfare Case" on his social media platform. His appeal had argued that the trial judge should not have allowed the jury to view an excerpt from the "Access Hollywood" tape and that testimony from two women who claimed Trump sexually assaulted them should not have been permitted.
