Newcastle Edging Closer to Signing Monaco Midfielder Aladji Bamba Despite His Limited Senior Experience of Just One Full Game
Newcastle United has agreed a deal worth up to €40 million with Monaco for 20-year-old midfielder Aladji Bamba. The France Under-20 international is set to undergo a medical in the North East, with the upfront fee standing at €35.5m and potential add-ons of €5.5m. Bamba, who has made 25 senior appearances for Monaco, will become Newcastle's fourth summer signing.
The club has already signed goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, midfielder Sean Steur, and winger Bazoumana Touré. However, Newcastle missed out on top midfield target Johan Manzambi, who joined Aston Villa, and winger Victor Muñoz, who was signed by Liverpool. The signings come after Newcastle sold midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for €108m, with midfielders Joe Willock and Bruno Guimarães potentially leaving the club this summer.
Bamba is described as a technical player who can play in a two or three-man midfield. He is a solid defensive midfielder who excels at interceptions and anticipation but struggles to maintain his intensity for 90 minutes. Having played futsal as a child, Bamba is expected to bring a unique skillset to the Premier League. Despite his limited experience, with only one full senior game under his belt, the physicality of the Premier League may be an ideal environment for him to develop.
