Ohio Man Contracts Cyclosporiasis After Eating Multiple Meals At Taco Bell, Prompting Lawsuit

An Ohio man has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he contracted cyclosporiasis after eating at a Taco Bell restaurant in a suburb southwest of Cleveland. Mohammed R. Ayyad, a resident of North Olmsted, alleges he became ill after visiting the restaurant multiple times between June 14 and June 21.

Ayyad began experiencing symptoms on June 23, including vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and chills. He sought medical care at a Cleveland Clinic urgent care and was later diagnosed with cyclosporiasis after providing a stool sample that tested positive for Cyclospora.

The lawsuit, filed on July 16 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, names Pacific Bells LLC, the owner and operator of the North Olmsted Taco Bell, as the defendant. Ayyad's lawyer, William Marler, specializes in food safety cases.

The lawsuit comes as Taco Bell Corp. announced it was removing lettuce from an unnamed supplier in some states as a precautionary measure. The company stated that it has consistently acted quickly to protect its guests, encouraging other restaurants and foodservice operators to take similar action.
