FBI Foils Plot to Attack White House UFC Event Using Drones, According to Sources

The FBI has disrupted an alleged plot to target the "UFC Freedom 250" fights at the White House on Sunday, involving explosive drones designed to hit buildings in the area. According to multiple sources, the plot was uncovered on June 10, and five people are currently in custody.

FBI Director Kash Patel praised the "rapid action" of the FBI and its partners, including a multi-state operation, in response to the threat. The alleged suspects in custody include one individual from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sources indicate that 23 people were involved in Signal chats discussing preoperational plans, with some traveling to Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 12 or 13. The plot allegedly involved a "second wave" targeting a security checkpoint after the initial drone attack, aimed at spurring a mass evacuation.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship event, held on the White House grounds, coincided with the 80th birthday of President Donald Trump, who attended the celebration of America's 250th anniversary. FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials had warned earlier this month that the event was an "attractive symbolic target," although no credible threats were listed at the time.

Director Patel stated that the law enforcement response was a testament to the team's ability to detect and respond to threats, particularly during large gatherings. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as permitted.
