Trump and Cassidy Engage in Heated Exchange Over War Powers Vote During Tense Meeting with Republican Senators

President Donald Trump clashed with Senator Bill Cassidy in a meeting with Republican senators over the war powers resolution. The resolution, which aims to limit Trump's ability to wage war in Iran, was passed by the Senate with four Republicans voting in favor, including Cassidy.

Multiple sources described the clash as a shouting match, with Trump calling Cassidy a "lunatic" at one point. Senate Majority Leader John Thune intervened to de-escalate the situation, while other senators attempted to ease tensions.

Cassidy stood by his decision to vote for the resolution, stating that the American people deserve to know what's going on with Iran. He expressed frustration that the original objectives had not been achieved and that the conflict had lasted four months instead of the intended four weeks.

The senator admitted to losing his temper during the meeting but made no apologies for standing up to the president. Trump also made a dig at Cassidy's recent primary loss, which was to a candidate recruited by the president.

The war powers resolution passed with a 50-48 vote, thanks in part to two Republican absences. Despite the rare rebuke, Trump downplayed the incident, saying the party is "very unified" and that he likes "everybody really in the room."
