Lindsey Graham's Sister Tapped by South Carolina Governor to Fill His Senate Seat for Remainder of Term

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of late Senator Lindsey Graham, to fill his US Senate seat for the remainder of his term. Nordone said she plans to honor her brother's legacy, stating, "I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted."

Graham, a longtime Republican lawmaker, died suddenly at the age of 71 on Saturday due to an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to preliminary findings.

McMaster announced Nordone's appointment on Monday, saying, "Lindsey took care of his little sister in years long departed. It's my honor to ask his little sister, Darlene Graham, to finish his work for him now." President Donald Trump had earlier recommended Nordone as Graham's temporary replacement, calling it a "fabulous tribute" to the late senator.

Nordone has served as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind since 2019 and has held various roles in state government and education. A special election is scheduled for August 11 to determine Graham's permanent replacement on the Republican ballot for the general election in November.
